Movement fuels the flow and function of the lymph system. As Trager practitioners we are highly attuned with how touch and natural movement informs the body and its many systems. The lymph system is comprised of a vast network of vessels, nodes and ducts that together orchestrate the movement of the so-called 'lymph-obligatory load'. In this daily payload are large-molecule substances such as proteins, large-molecular fats, immobile cells, cellular detretis waste products, bacteria, viruses, excess water and inorganic materials. The external forces of our muscular movement (daily movement) and the internal rhythmic 'bellows' action of our breathing together create a systematic tide and flow of lymph. Like other sytems in the body, tension, illness, trauma and so on can impede the natural movement of lymph.
With our keen Trager sense of touch, its intention and escorted within the spirit of 'hook-up', we will bring a little added emphasis to areas that are typically challenging for the lymphatics, particularly as this relates to tension, worry, compensatory patterns and pain. We will briefly review the 4 Absolute Contraindications in working with the lymph system. We will have opportunity to discuss and identify the differences in tissue quality ie. local swelling, edema, pitting edema, bruising, scar-tissue, water retention and cegestion. All of the day's practical teachings (passive and active) will be presented in a Trager context that is fun, informative, and effective!
Roger Hughes is a 1995 graduate of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy. He has been a Trager practitioner since 2002 and a Trager Instructor since 2017. He has extensive experience in working with those diagnosed with cancer, the side effects associated with conventional caner treatments, comple and mixed edemas. Roger has had equal experience in working with 'lesser pathologies', post-surgery healing, detoxifying support, and as a therapy toward strengthening the immune response.
