Biography
Besides teaching for Trager International in English and German, he also consults with massage schools and individual bodyworkers on movement issues in the bodywork practice, gives presentations on bodywork and somatic movement education at various conferences, and does private and group training integrating body, mind, sex and spirit.
He has a B.A. in Theater/Movement, and spent 15 years as a professional modern dancer and choreographer in Boston and New York City. The fluidity, playfulness and elegance from his dance career are everywhere evident in the way he embodies Trager principles.
He began his Trager practice in 1984 in New York City. He now lives in Charlottesville, VA, where he maintains a private practice when not on the road teaching.
From his dance and Trager background, through his extensive study with pioneers in the field of somatic movement education, and through his personal practice of movement meditations, Roger developed a series of workshops in "Movement and Transformation". Since 1989, he has been teaching these workshops around the world.
In 2003, he created and produced three decks of "Body ReMinder" Mentastics playing cards. These are now available in English through the US Trager Association, and in German through German Trager Association. They are also to be found with Japanese translation at the new Trager Japanese website. French and Italian versions are in development.
His article on the Trager Approach was featured in the Spring 2005 issue of American Massage Therapy Association's Massage Therapy Journal. His article on Trager Mentastics was published in the May 1996 issue of NOW! Magazine in Melbourne, Australia.
Recently he has produced a number of videos about Trager work — a couple short ones available to Students and to the public, and several longer ones designed to support Trager Students in their fieldwork practice.

About Trager
A Lighter Way of Being
Imagine a child... carefree... expressing himself with natural, easy, and fluid movements... his body a source of joy, pleasure and vitality. This feeling is your birthright. You can recover this feeling in Trager sessions, and learn to restore it to your everyday awareness.
The Movement Sends the Message
The Trager Approach is a way of learning through movement and touch. In sessions, you receive repeated lessons in what it feels like to move with more and more ease and freedom. Your head, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, back and torso are supported, gently moved, elongated, jiggled and rocked in your body's natural rhythms. As your mind and body yield to these soft, wave-like movements, tensions disappear and new movement patterns become possible.
An Approach for Every Body
The Trager Approach is pleasurable, gentle and nurturing. It's wide appeal comes from the deep and long-lasting effects. Some people receive sessions for relaxation, for enjoyment, for personal growth, or to enhance athletic performance; Others because they are challenged by the functional limitations of pain, medical conditions, aging, disease, or injuries. Inquire about the benefits of a Trager session for your specific concerns.
An Investment in Your Well-Being
Benefits of a Trager session are cumulative, with subsequent sessions allowing for deeper and more long-lasting change. But even after one session clients say:
I feel deeply relaxed and energized at the same time.
I feel less pain and have more flexibility.
I feel more connected to my body, my emotions, and my soul.
I feel like I have come home to myself.
Put Yourself in Experienced Hands
From Germany to Japan, from Italy to Australia, Roger is one of the most sought after practitioners and teachers of this delightful approach to wellness. In addition to many years of study with Dr. Milton Trager, M.D. and other pioneers in the fields of Somatic Education and Movement Therapy, he brings to his practice the depth, range and sensitivity from over 25 years in practice and over 15,000 client sessions. He currently offers private sessions at his home studio in Charlottesville, VA, and at various locations around the world in conjunction with his teaching engagements.
Sessions
Come Home to Your Self
Let go… into hands and presence that are soft, sensitive, powerful, and wise.
Feel… movement and touch that soothes, delights, and expands your possibilities.
Discover… how daily life is immeasurably enhanced by regular experiences of exquisite re-connection to Self.
What happens in a session?
In my warm, spacious studio, each session will begin with a short consultation to determine what your deeper goals are, as well as the specific intentions of this session. We may decide to focus on one or more of the following:
Bodywork
Relaxation Training
Movement Therapy
Therapeutic Intimacy
Mindfulness Coaching
Mind/Body/Spirit Connection
To get to know you better, and to understand what is going on in your bodymind, I will ask you to describe your experience, both sensory and emotional, and I'll observe your current ways of moving. We'll explore together how new ways of moving effect your experience. By shifting the direction and quality of attention, and by finding dynamic alignment through imagery, you will begin to release restrictive habits of thinking or being.
When you get on my comfortable bodywork table, dressed in what ever is most comfortable for you (loose shorts and tank top, soft sweatshirt and pants, or just briefs) and draped for your warmth and privacy, you will be able to relax all the neuromuscular activity that usually deals with being upright in gravity. As my hands gently cradle, elongate, compress, fluff, and send pleasurable waves and ripples through your body, you will be able to let go of other deeply held patterns of bracing or sluggishness. Soft touch and penetrating movement (punctuated by pauses in resonant silence) will gradually, safely awaken and spread life energy throughout your body.
Before we close the session, you will have plenty of time to integrate what your body has learned. As you sit, stand, walk and explore what is new in your body and mind, we will continue our inquiry. What is the meaning for you of this new feeling experience? How can you take this feeling home with you? How can you weave it into your work and your relationships? What do you want to set as specific intentions for a daily self-practice? What will be the goals for future sessions?
